Almost 30 Years Later... Still Standing Strong.

Today, were replacing the tiles of one of the swimming pools we built nearly 30 years ago.

The amazing part? Were only renovating the finish—not rebuilding the structure.

After almost three decades, the pools structural shell remains sound. Only the tiles need a fresh new look.

This is why we never build swimming pools just to look beautiful on opening day. We engineer them to last for generations.

Think about it: if this pool had to be demolished and rebuilt today, the owner would face a massive investment due to the significant increase in material and labour costs over the past 30 years. Instead, because it was built right the first time, a simple tile replacement is all thats needed.

Thats the true value of quality engineering and craftsmanship.

At Crystal Blue, we believe a swimming pool isnt just another construction project—its a long-term investment. While finishes naturally age and can be renewed, a properly engineered structure should continue serving families for decades.

Build it once. Enjoy it for generations. Renovate only when you want a new look.

Thats the Crystal Blue difference.

A HOUSE CONTRACTOR IS NOT NECESSARILY A POOL SPECIALIST.

Recently, I visited a newly built house and noticed several long hairline cracks on the walls.

Of course, cracks are never ideal. But in many cases, they can be repaired with crack filler and a fresh coat of paint.

As I stood there looking at those cracks, one thought came to mind...

This is exactly why people ask why a professionally built swimming pool costs more per square metre than a house.

The truth is, they may both be made of concrete—but thats where the similarity ends.

A house is designed to provide shelter.

A swimming pool is engineered to safely contain tens or even hundreds of tons of water, every hour of every day, for decades.

Once a pool is filled, the walls and floor are constantly resisting enormous hydrostatic pressure.

Thats why even a small crack isnt just cosmetic.

It can become a path for water to escape, leading to leaks, structural deterioration, damaged finishes, and repairs that often cost far more than building it correctly in the first place.

This is why swimming pool construction is a specialised discipline—not just another concrete project.

It demands structural engineering, heavy-duty reinforcement, watertight concrete, specialised waterproofing, hydraulic design, and skilled workmanship.

Every shortcut may save money today...

…but it often becomes tomorrows leak.

Anyone can build a concrete shell.

Not everyone can build a swimming pool that remains watertight for decades.

So when choosing a contractor, dont just ask:

Who can build my pool?

Ask instead:

Who has the expertise to build it right?

Because in swimming pool construction...

Quality isnt a luxury. Its the difference between peace of mind and years of expensive repairs.

Why do professionally built swimming pools often cost more per square meter than a house?

The photos below show cracks on the walls of a newly built house. While these cracks are not ideal, they can often be repaired with crack filler and repainting because house walls are not designed to hold water.

A swimming pool is a completely different type of structure.

A pool is a watertight engineered structure designed to contain tens of thousands of liters of water 24 hours a day. Once filled, the concrete shell is subjected to tremendous hydrostatic pressure. Even a small crack can become a pathway for water to escape, potentially leading to leaks, deterioration, and costly repairs.

This is why swimming pool construction requires specialized engineering and craftsmanship. Every stage—from structural design, reinforcement, concrete placement, waterproofing, and hydraulic systems to finishing—must be executed with precision.

Cutting costs on labor or materials may reduce the initial price, but it greatly increases the risk of leaks, structural issues, and expensive repairs later.

Anyone can build a concrete shell. A true swimming pool specialist builds a structure that is designed to remain watertight and stand the test of time.

Quality is not an upgrade in swimming pool construction—its a necessity.
